'Little Women' trailer: Watch Saoirse Ronan lead the feminist charge

Now, Gerwig and her leading ladies are leaning into that spirit.

"Women, they have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts", Ronan's Jo says in the trailer.

Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Eliza Scanlen star as March sisters Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth, respectively, bolstered by supporting performances from Meryl Streep, Laura Dern and Timothée Chalamet. But low and behold, this movie actually looks fun! They were not in a period piece, they were just living. However, rather than coming off as discordant or ahistorical, the approach works.

Check out the Little Women trailer below. The two co-starred in her 2017 hit "Lady Bird", which was nominated for "Best Picture" and "Best Original Screenplay", "Best Actress" (Ronan) and "Best Supporting Actress" and "Best Director" (Gerwig) at the Academy Awards that year.

The film opens in the United States on Christmas Day and in the UK on Boxing Day. In Gerwig's take, the beloved story of the March sisters - four young women each determined to live life on her own terms - is both timeless and timely.

Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet, Laura Dern and more have teamed up with Lady Bird's Greta Gerwig for what promises to be the ideal Christmas Day activity this year.
