Bezos Sells Amazon Stock Worth $2.8 Billion

The richest 500 people on earth, who feature in Bloomberg Billionaire Index, lost 2.1per cent of their collective net worth - amounting to $117 billion - on Monday as USA stocks nosedived in their biggest drop this year owing to escalating trade tensions between the USA and China.

According to a recent report released by Bloomberg, the 500 most wealthy people in the world lost 2.1% of their collective net worth in a day.

Other notable losses were Bernard Arnault losing $US3.2 billion, Mark Zuckerberg down $US2.8 billion, Mukesh Ambani dropping $US2.4 billion, and Bill Gates' net worth down by $US2 billion.

"But he's still the richest person on the planet with $US110 billion", Bloomberg said.

Mackenzie Bezos, Jeff Bezos' former wife, is now the second largest individual shareholder in e-retailing giant with stake worth more than $37 billion.

Even after Monday's losses, the 500 individuals on the index control nearly US$5.4 trillion, an 11 per cent increase from January 1.

After cashing in $1.8 billion worth of the Amazon shares over the last three days of July, Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos has now sold Amazon shares worth $990 million in the first two days of August, the media reported.
