Natalie Portman to Play Female Thor in Marvel's 4th Film in Franchise

As per the Marvel comics, Jane Foster follows the path of Thor and subsequently becomes a Thor and in the upcoming movie, Natalie is going to follow the same footsteps. That appeared to be reason for her character's abscence in the last Thor movie, Thor: Rangnarok.

The Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic Con revealed that Natalie Portman's Jane Foster will make her return to the MCU as the female Thor in the 2021 sequel Thor: Love and Thunder.

Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are all returning for the fourth Thor. It's an exciting development, especially after a queer scene featuring Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok was left on the cutting room floor.

This time she'll join Hemsworth in doing the superhero heavy lifting.

"I've always had hammer envy", Portman joked, according to Variety.

io9 caught up with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to get confirmation on the matter that Thompson teased, being asked point blank if the film will explore that territory with the character in the new movie.

The 43-year-old Oscar-nominated director is also an actor and comedian and he earned praise from MCU fans for his injection of a healthy dose of intelligent humour into Thor's world in Ragnarok.

That is when it was announced that she is set to portray the titular character in Thor: Love and Thunder. Anyone thinking of arguing that Portman's iteration of Thor will be less powerful than Hemsworth's would be wise to bite their tongues. "Consider me thunderously excited".

Flash back to 2014: Marvel announced the debut of a female Thor penned by comics writer Jason Aaron, who attended high school in Shelby County and graduated from UAB before moving to Kansas City. The Eternals is one of the new Marvel movies hitting theaters in 2020 and adapts the truly unusual Jack Kirby comic to the big screen. Marvel hasn't said one way or another whether Jane and Thor will give their relationship another shot in Love and Thunder, but we're betting it's possible. Thor is no longer worthy of wielding Mjolnir. It seems as if their romance was written in the stars. It'll be interesting to see her progress to get into fighting shape to take on the title of Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder, slated for November 5, 2021.
