McLaren confirm Sainz and Norris for next season

"McLaren is pleased to confirm that Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris will continue as McLaren F1 drivers for the 2020 FIA Formula 1 season", McLaren said in a statement.

Following an upturn in performance this year, McLaren has made the decision to retain Norris alongside Sainz for its 2020 F1 driver line-up.

After a dismal period of under-performance, F1's second most successful outfit is finally enjoying a long-awaited resurgence, with Sainz and Norris' results placing McLaren now at the head of F1's midfield.

"Today's announcement provides the team with the continuity to keep pushing forward". Both, Sainz and Norris have played a key role in helping the team score strongly; they now stand 7th and 8th, respectively, in the drivers' championship.

"Lando has got up to speed with the demands of Formula 1 incredibly quickly and is growing in confidence every weekend".

"We want to develop together.and at the same time hopefully we can make the same progress on the team side as well, giving them the right machine". Sainz, who is in his fifth full season of Formula One competition, has a best finish of sixth for McLaren so far this year. "Both Carlos and Lando are proving themselves as racers and are integral to our path to recovery".

Competing in nine Grand Prixs, the teenager has made an impressive start to his Formula 1 career and now sits in eighth place in the drivers' championship table.

The team sits fourth in the constructors' championship after nine of 21 races, 20 points ahead of engine provider Renault's works team.

As for Sainz, he has shown his experience by recovering from a tricky start to score points in five of the past six races including two P6's of his own in Monaco and Paul Ricard.
