Denis Villeneuve is working on a Dune universe sci-fi TV series

Are you looking forward to a Dune series that will center around the Bene Gesserit from Warner Media? Regardless, the studio appears committed to developing a shared universe based on author Frank Herbert's series of novels.

Set within the intergalactic empire of Dune, The Sisterhood will follow an order of women known as the Bene Gesserit. According to THR, Villeneuve will direct the pilot for Dune: The Sisterhood, a female-focused spinoff series with Legendary Television for WarnerMedia's still-unnamed streaming service. The Bene Gesserit are a political and social force, whose members train their bodies and minds to the point that they obtain superhuman abilities. There are 23 novels in the Dune franchise (Herbert only wrote the first six, while his son Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson wrote the rest) so there's definitely enough material to pull from to explore the lore of the Bene Gesserit order. Yet that didn't stop him from signing on to helm a Dune series for WarnerMedia's upcoming streaming service.

So yeah, not only are we getting a Dune TV series, but we're getting a Dune TV series with a pilot directed by Academy Award-nominated director Denis Villeneuve about space witches. Rebecca Ferguson and Charlotte Rampling will assume those roles in next year's remake. However, it would certainly be a fun way to tie these projects together. "Focusing a series around that powerful order of women seemed not only relevant and inspiring but a dynamic setting for the television series", Villeneuve said in the statement.

If you've kept up with news about the Dune feature coming out next year, you'll note that the plot of the TV show shouldn't need to interfere with whatever happens in the movie. Let us know in the comment section below!
