"You won't be for much longer if you use this Cheltenham free bet offer" followed by a link to download the William Hill mobile app.

William Hill responded to the complaint by stressing that customers are often known to "shop around" for the best odds and betting offers available, and that customers could use the bookmakers site as a comparison for other sites.

The complainant filed a complaint against a paid-for message for William Hill seen on the dating application Tinder on March 11th, 2019.

"Our new advertising campaign featuring Anthony Joshua marks a step change for William Hill with the brand-led creative also integrating safer gambling messages".

Gambling adverts must not "link gambling to seduction, sexual success or enhanced attractiveness", according to the United Kingdom code of non-broadcast advertising, which is overseen by the ASA.

Upon reflection, William Hill agreed the advert could have different interpretations but said it wasn't their intention to link sexual success with gambling.

The operator initially defended the advert after a customer complained.

In response to the ASA's criticism, William Hill explained that the advert actually meant that customers would be entering "into a relationship" with William Hill, and I guess I can see the argument for that given that at some point in your gambling escapade, you're more than likely going to get fucked.

But the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said it must not appear again in its current form.

Tinder said they reviewed the ad to ensure its content was not socially irresponsible, offensive or targeting minors, and published it on their platform after it passed their screening.

Although the ad was removed by William Hill, the ASA underlined that the ad breached the CAP code, which requires that marketing communications for gambling must be socially responsible and shouldn't link gambling to seduction, sexual success or enhanced attractiveness.

In the US, William Hill said its total net revenues rose by 48% from operations in all seven US states that have now legislated and regulated sports betting.
