Lift holding two workers swings out of control in Oklahoma City

An out-of-control lift lurched through the air at a high-rise building in Oklahoma City, endangering two window washers who were inside it.

The "very risky situation" unfolded around 7:45 a.m. local time.

Multiple windows were broken as the lift swung through the air, sending shards of glass falling to the ground below.

Around 8:30 a.m., officials said "the basket is now secured and firefighters are working to get the two window washers out of the basket". One of the workers has a possible head injury, according to reports.

A tweet from fire Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson states: "Dangerous situation at Devon Tower".

A large basket, believed to have window washers inside, is swinging wildly out of control at the top of the tower.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area as roads may be shut down.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured.
