Pep Guardiola says City can not afford any slip-ups during title race

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is adamant Liverpool don't deserve to be Premier League leaders.

Victory at Palace temporarily moved City back to the top of the Premier League on Sunday only for Liverpool to then replace them.

It means City remain two points behind but, crucially, they have a game in hand, and Guardiola believes they can not afford a single slip-up during the run-in.

The Eagles will be the underdogs for this clash as they will be playing against a fired-up Citzens side who are aiming to win their second consecutive Premier League title under Pep Guardiola.

Despite the pressure applied by Liverpool's plucky challenge to the champions' domestic crown, City have consistently maintained their objective with arguably the highest technical level of football in Europe this season.

"Simply, when he plays they are better and I would be amazed if he was not in the starting line-up in the next few weeks".

Selhurst Park has been a graveyard for title campaigns in the recent past, notably when Liverpool's wheels came off in 2014 and City suffered a similar fate a year later.

The champions maintained their momentum at Selhurst Park on Sunday, as a brace from Raheem Sterling and a late Gabriel Jesus strike capped what was a generally comfortable afternoon in south London, made so through their own quality and composure.

"But we don't have any complaints - we have taken 183 points in two seasons and still have five games left". Those are incredible numbers, especially in the Premier League, and shows how consistent we are.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson has no doubt they can pull off an unprecedented four-timer.

"I think they look in very good shape", he said. That doesn't make the task any easier.

"I have to say, from our point of view, it is brilliant to watch, even though it is painful for me".
