Orange weather alert issued for Cork and Waterford

We have been dying for some warmth on our bones and it looks like Met Éireann is finally coming through for us with some good news.

The warnings - one Status Orange and three Status Yellow alerts - are valid from today, Sunday, April 14, through to tomorrow evening.

Forecasters have issued a Status Orange rainfall warning for Cork and Waterford.

The warning will remain in place until 6pm Monday.

There are also two marine warnings in place, a status yellow gale warning and a small craft warning from Malin Head to Howth Head to Roches Point. Again, the warning will be valid from 6:00pm this evening through to the same time tomorrow. Heavy rain has led to a Status Orange warning while Status Yellow warnings have been extended for wind and rain.

Spot flooding and hazardous driving conditions are expected in many areas and motorists have been advised to be cautios in the risky conditions.

Meanwhile, there's a Status Yellow wind warning in place for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry, Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

MET Éireann is warning of "significant rainfall" and spot flooding in Limerick between now and Monday evening.

Strong and gusty southeast winds are expected with means speeds of 50 to 65kmh with gusts of 90 to 110km/h, strongest in coastal areas and about high ground.

Met Éireann says this weather alert is in place from 5am tomorrow until 5pm.

"It will be cold and blustery with highest temperatures of just 5 to 9 degrees in fresh to strong, gusty southeast winds". It will be wet in Munster, Connacht and western and southern parts of Leinster with rain becoming heavy and leading to a risk of spot flooding.

"The rain will become lighter and more patchy in many parts through the afternoon".

It is predicting that we'll get some very nice days with sun and temperatures of up to 20 degrees.
