How to change your PSN name in PS4?

Since we're on the topic of the Playstation, it's probably worth mentioning that Sony has just announced a new bundle for the PS4 Slim.

This week has seen plenty of news surround the PlayStation platform gaming with the welcomed announcement of players being able to finally change their PlayStation Network (PSN) names. That said, before you rush to your PlayStation 4 to change that embarrassing handle you've had since middle school, there are a few caveats to keep in mind.

Sony offers a list of totally freakish suggestions for new PSN names, but you could also try out whatever you want - the tool will tell you whether or not it's available, as you can see above. At least, it is free the first time you do it. Have you changed your old PSN ID to something new and fresh? For PS Plus subscribers, this fee is $4.99 or £3.99, while for non-subscribers it is $9.99 or £7.99.

It is also possible to trigger permanent game errors or data loss just by changing one's ID.

Those who don't have games in the above category or don't care about encountering the listed errors can proceed to changing their PSN ID. Tested titles have been helpfully divided into three categories: Games with No Known Issues, Games with Issues Identified, and Games with Critical Issues. With yesterday's arrival of ID changes comes a softening of the punishment directed at violators. As such, games published on or after April 1, 2018 are not included in the Games List, unless a game has been reported and an issue confirmed, in which case we will add the game to the Games List.

Select [Account Management] [Account Information] [Profile] [Online ID].

Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

Detailing how the system works, Sony explained that PSN users who've made a decision to change their ID only for it to be flagged as inappropriate should be able to resolve the issue by reverting back to their original PSN name. Funnily enough, this screen also reminds the player how long they've had their old name.
