Anton du Beke 'favourite to replace Darcey Bussell on Strictly'

A spot on the Strictly panel opened up this week when Darcey Bussell made the surprise announcement she was quitting.

I am just stepping away to give more focus to my many other commitments in dance.

Asked why male co-stars never appear to face the same reports, she replied: "Funny that".

While it has been reported that one of the reasons that Darcey Bussell has bowed out of Strictly Come Dancing is because she wanted to a pay rise, Craig Revel Horwood has shut down the reports, calling them "absolute rubbish".

During the interview, Horwood noted how he had sent well wishes to "best mate" Bussell privately "unlike everyone else who sends their condolences as though she's dead!"

"It's going to be really sad seeing her go, obviously, because I love sitting next to her and I don't know who's going to take her place - no idea".

Katie responded: "She was polite. and tactful".

And when asked who she thought might replace Darcey, Katie predicted Oti Mabuse.

Now Strictly insiders say 39-year-old Flack - who starred as Roxie Hart in Chicago in the West End last year - is the front runner to be holding up scorecards because, having won with outgoing dancer Pasha Kovalev in 2014, she is "part of the family". "I like watching her".

Strictly's cast and crew are reportedly backing veteran dancer Anton Du Beke to replace Darcey.

Dame Darcey is stepping down as a judge after seven years on the panel to focus on other dance commitments. Some on the show believe it's time for him to hang up his dancing shoes and sit on the other side of the table. "He isn't a real contender any more".

Karen Hardy has been rumoured as a potential new judge.

Do you think Anton would make a good Strictly judge?

During her time on the show, she also worked alongside long-running head judge Len Goodman, who left in 2016, and she has taken part in the live Strictly arena tour for the past two years.

A spokesperson for Coral told OK!: "Cheryl has always been linked with a stint on the Strictly dancefloor and perhaps Darcey's exit will instead see her seal a place on the judging panel".
