Kristoff St. John's Cause Of Death Finally Revealed

Shemar Moore will reprise his The Young and the Restless role to pay tribute to the CBS soap's longtime cast member Kristoff St. John, who died on February 3 at the age of 52.

TMZ reports the star passed away from heart disease and an accidental alcohol overdose.

Although many of St. John's close friends and colleagues spoke out about his public struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts after his death, it was ruled an "accident" in the coroner's report.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said that The Young and the Restless star died accidentally from hypertrophic heart disease by way of alcohol abuse.

52-year-old Kristoff was found dead last month at his home in the San Fernando Valley. The disease makes it hard for the heart to pump blood and often goes undiagnosed.

While police and paramedics responded to his home, St. John was pronounced dead at the scene.

TMZ also recently reported that Kristoff would be laid to rest next to the grave of his son, Julian.

His business guy character wended his way through romances, deaths of loved ones and other daytime travails that descended into alcoholism before going into rehab. It also seems to be the likely trigger for Kristoff's heavy drinking at the time of his death. In the years that followed Julian's death, St. John reportedly battled severe depression and was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold in October 2017 after threatening to shoot himself.

Kristoff had played Neil Winters on The Young and the Restless since 1991.
