‘The Blacklist’ renewed for season 7 at NBC

NBC has announced that The Blacklist has been renewed for a seventh season. According to Variety, both Spader and Boone will be coming back for the seventh season. Season six of the show is now airing.

Although ratings have dipped slightly for The Blacklist in recent years, the series has been a solid performer for NBC since it debuted in 2013. This season, the show was bumped to Fridays at 9 p.m.

It is averaging 7.3 million viewer and a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic in Live+7 Nielsen ratings. It's been a strong delayed gainer, growing by 119% from Live+Same Day to L+7 in adults 18-49 (from a 0.57 rating to a 1.25) and by 3.4 million viewers (3.9 million to 7.3 million). The drama ranks as the 2018-2019 primetime season's top-rated "most upscale drama" among the four major networks with adults between 18-49 years old and earning $100k.

Spader also serves as an EP on the show, alongside Jon Bokenkamp, John Eisendrath, John Davis, John Fox, Lukas Reiter, J.R. Orci, Carla Kettner and Laura A. Benson. It inspired the spin-off The Blacklist: Redemption, which lasted one season in 2017. Debuting on September 23, 2013, the series stars James Spader as Raymond "Red" Reddington, a former U.S. Navy officer turned high-profile criminal who voluntarily surrenders to the Federal Bureau of Investigation after eluding capture for decades. After brokering shadowy deals for criminals across the globe for years, he's now mysteriously surrendered to the Federal Bureau of Investigation with an explosive offer: he will help them catch an entire "blacklist" of politicians, mobsters, spies and global terrorists but only under the condition that he works exclusively with Elizabeth "Liz" Keen, an Federal Bureau of Investigation profiler fresh out of Quantico. Klattenhoff stars as FBI special agent Donald Ressler, and Lennix plays Harold Cooper, the Assistant Director of the FBI Counterterrorism Division.

Although there is still a few more weeks left of the 2018-2019 TV season, NBC has already been busy renewing shows for 2019-2020. Amir Arison and Hisham Tawfiq also star.
