Mary’s, Gonzaga meet in WCC

The teams last faced each other on March 2, when the Bulldogs shot 52.8 percent from the field while holding Saint Mary's's shooters to just 40.4 percent en route to a 69-55 victory. The Gaels had done what seemed to be the impossible this season for any WCC team: They beat the Zags.

"The way we did it, from where we were at the beginning of the year until now, I get a lot of satisfaction out of that", Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett said. Gonzaga had six assists after finishing with 26 in the WCC semifinals against Pepperdine.

BIG MEN ON CAMPUS: Gonzaga's Rui Hachimura has averaged 20.4 points and 6.6 rebounds while Brandon Clarke has put up 16.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.1 blocks. Mark Few is one of the best coaches in the country and sure to address the issue in practice between now and the NCAA Tournament, but there's no doubt this performance is not what Gonzaga fans wanted to see at a time when you'd like to see a championship contender playing its best basketball.

Gonzaga previously dominated the conference in the regular season, posting a 16-0 record while winning by a WCC-record 27 points per game.

Saint Mary's controlled the pace in round three against Gonzaga, bogging down the Zags' offense and forcing them into hard shots.

Syracuse: The Orange (19-12, 10-8 ACC) will play Pittsburgh on Wednesday in the ACC Tournament and if they can take care of business, would win their 20th game and be in good position to earn a bid. Junior guard Jordan Ford scored a game-high 17 points.

Though St. Mary's led for the entire second half, the early going actually belonged to the Zags, who opened the game on a 9-2 run.

Final score: Saint Mary's 60, Gonzaga 47. The Gaels extended the lead to 48-41 with 7½ minutes left and answered every time Gonzaga tried to make a run. Now it's on to the NCAA Tournament.
