James Gunn Rehired to Direct 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3'

"What nearly no one knew was that Marvel and Disney had never undertaken a search and had gone back to Gunn and made a deal.in secret, according to insiders".

Disney CEO Bob Iger got to look decisive and confident; Marvel Studios still kept one of its most successful franchises intact; and James Gunn got a nice vacation form social media bullies, while doubling his power in the industry with both Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, and DC's The Suicide Squad. All parties have apparently agreed to allow Gunn to return to Guardians after completing work on that film.

Back in July, Walt Disney Studios dismissed Gunn from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to Gunn's past controversial tweets.

Last July, Disney fired Gunn after decade-old tweets resurfaced in which he joked about topics including pedophilia and rape.

"As I have discussed publicly many times, as I've developed as a person, so has my work and my humour".

Despite unconfirmed reports to the contrary, Marvel Studios never "met with or considered" a replacement director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the online Hollywood trade is reporting.

Immediately after Gunn's dismissal, the primary cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise made a public statement calling for his re-instatement, with Drax actor Dave Bautista going so far as saying he would balk at reprising his role in the franchise again should the writer/director not be on-board. "At the end of the day, he was making jokes and he was being provocative and he was looking for that shock value, but they were just jokes". In the past, I have apologised for humour of mine that hurt people. "Love to you all".

According to the MailOnline, all of the tweets were posted before Gunn joined the Marvel Universe in 2014. In August, however, Variety reported that Disney was upholding its decision to fire the filmmaker, even after an alleged meeting between Gunn and Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn.
