Real Madrid to sign Porto's Militao in 50m euros deal

Manchester United lose out to Real Madrid in the race to sign Porto centre-back Eder Militao, according to a report.

Militao has signed a six-year deal at the Bernabeu, with Madrid confirming he has committed his future to the club until 2025.

An agreement is now in place, with the Blancos having got their man.

The centre-back is Real Madrid's first signing following the return of Zinedine Zidane as manager.

A statement released by Madrid on their official website read: "Eder Gabriel Militao is officially a new Real Madrid player, signing until 2025".

The Brazil global, who joined Porto from Sao Paulo in the summer, will join up with his new team-mates at the start of next season.

"He comes to the Whites from Porto, where he has quickly become a star of the team in only his first year in the Portuguese League".

The 21-year-old has impressed for Porto, since arriving in a €4m (£3.5m) deal from Sao Paulo last summer.

Militao, who can also play at right-back and has been capped once by Brazil, reinforces a Real defence that has often been diminished by injuries this season. It stands out for its speed, placement and ability to anticipate. "Qualities that he has worn since his arrival last summer at Oporto, where he has shown a rapid adaptation to European football".

The Blancos have endured a hard campaign as a result, with Zidane becoming the third man to fill their managerial hot-seat.
