Proteas trounce Sri Lanka in fourth ODI

Despite that mini-setback, Nortje has been largely impressive against Sri Lanka and with only one ODI remaining in the series, it looks like he is very much in the World Cup plans.

Hendricks will replace Amla in the squad for the games at St George's Park on Wednesday and at Newlands on Saturday.

Sri Lanka´s Lasith Malinga, yet to win in seven matches as captain, said he would have batted. "They (the batsmen) didn't realise their value and take the opportunity to play a long innings".

Quinton de Kock hit a superb 121 from 108 balls as he set the tone for his side on their way to 331/5 before Imran Tahir and Kagiso Rabada did a solid job at restricting the Sri Lankans to just 121/5 off their reduced 24 overs.

"The selectors have made a decision to add Reeza Hendricks to the squad".

Batting at number nine in the order, Udana smashed 78 off only 57 balls to rescue the visitors' innings from 131 for nine.

Anrich Nortje picked up three wickets while Andile Phehlukwayo got two.

"I'm just taking one game at a time and it's just a great opportunity", he said.

Udana was the sole aggressor in the partnership, and was especially severe on Nortje, smashing 37 runs off his last two overs.

"Hashim has asked to be excused from the last two ODI's of the current series against Sri Lanka on compassionate grounds since his dad is now critically ill", Mohammed Moosajee, the South Africa team manager, said.

Hendricks was one of three wickets for Dhananjaya (3-41) - the spinner returning to claim De Kock and captain Faf du Plessis (43) - but David Miller (25no) and JP Duminy (31no) saw South Africa safely to a resounding victory.
