Mohammed Shami charged for dowry and sexual harassment by Kolkata police

He has been charged under IPC 498A (dowry harassment) and 354A (sexual harrasment). Shami's wife Hasin Jahan had accused him of alleged extra-marital affair, even going onto level match-fixing allegations against the pacer.Hasin Jahan's lawyer Zakir Hussain said, "The court will take cognizance on Friday of the names mentioned in the chargesheet for notices to be served to the accused". She had lodged an FIR with the Kolkata Police for the same.

On March 8 previous year, Kolkata police had registered an FIR against Shami, who, along with his family members were booked under section 498 A (Husband or relative of Husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC. Shami, however, maintained that Jahan's accusations were baseless. The BCCI later reinstated his central contract. Shami was given a Grade A central contract by BCCI and is among the strong contenders for India's squad for the 2019 World Cup.

Jahan has also accused Shami of corruption. In her complaint, she had accused Shami of torture, physical abuse and mental harassment.

The turmoil in personal had affected Shami's performances on the cricketing field too and he was dropped from Afghanistan Test for being unfit.

Shami was part of the Indian team that lost the five-match ODI series 3-2 against Australia on Wednesday.
