'Left 4 Dead' Creators Debut New Zombie Co-Op Game, 'Back 4 Blood'

So of course Valve and Turtle Rock built on that success by. letting the franchise lay fallow for nearly a decade now. Turtle Rock, who originally worked with Valve on the series, have just announced Back 4 Blood, a co-op zombie shooter which sounds an terrible lot like a spiritual successor to their acclaimed franchise. Interactive announced it has recruited Turtle Rock to bring the Left 4 Dead flavor back with the not-at-all-coincidentally titled Back 4 Blood.

Since Valve won't be giving us Left 4 Dead 3 anytime soon, the studio that gave us the franchise in the first place, Turtle Rock Studios, are coming up with their own solution: A new co-op zombie shooter called Back 4 Blood. None of that is too surprising, but it's comforting to know that Turtle Rock isn't straying too far from its roots.

"We are not resting on any past laurels". Studio co-founder Chris Ashton says that the game will be a "return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains". To be clear, it's not going to be a battle royale but will feature PVP and a campaign.

"We are thrilled to partner with the proven Turtle Rock Studios team on Back 4 Blood to advance the co-op zombie genre forward with innovative multiplayer gameplay", said David Haddad, President of Warner Bros.

"We know this title has to stand out and we fully intend to make that happen", said Turtle Rock Studios co-founder and creative director Phil Robb. Consider me curious then, to see just how Turtle Rock can up their zombie survival game then. The Turtle Rock team has put together a pretty comprehensive FAQ though, which reveals the game will be initially developed for PC, Xbox One and PS4 - teases next-gen machines like PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett versions - and will be a "premium, AAA title". "We love being able to announce, so we can start working with the community right away".
