Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez 'didn't like' challenge on keeper for Wolves equaliser

Rafa Benitez demanded more protection for his players after Newcastle United conceded an agonising late goal at Molineux.

Miguel Almiron entered from the bench in the 72nd minute during Newcastle's 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton on the road, as Wolves scored a stoppage-time equalizer.

Benitez's anger was enhanced because Wolves scored a stoppage-time victor at St James' Park in the reverse of this fixture in December, having believed Newcastle should have been given a foul beforehand for an elbow by Boly on Ayoze Perez.

Newcastle looked to be on course to secure a vital victory in their bid to avoid relegation after Isaac Hayden opened the scoring in the 56th minute.

Rafael Benitez has revealed what was said in the row between Martin Dubravka and Jamaal Lascelles after Newcastle United conceded a late equaliser against Wolves on Monday evening.

Defender Willy Boly headed past the Slovak in the 94th minute, although replays suggest he might have impeded Dubravka in doing so.

When asked if Newcastle should have had a free-kick after Boly's challenge, the Spaniard added: "In England they don't understand the rules so you can say whatever you want to say".

"It was maybe a foul before too". I can say many things but it will not change anything.

"It doesn't change anything, like the first game didn't change anything when we had a player with a broken nose".

"The situation is to protect the goalkeeper, so you're supposed to protect the keeper. We have been here for years and it's still very hard to explain that".
