Ellen DeGeneres shaves Julian Edelman’s beard for a good cause

New England will enter the NFL's 2019 season as the team to beat once again.

Not only do the Patriots already have a talented wide receiver group, led by Super Bowl 53 MVP Julian Edelman, but the AFC East franchise also has quite the loaded backfield as well, with a litany of running backs now on call.

Julian Edelman's gnarly playoff beard is officially a thing of the past. Ellen offered to donate $10,000 to one of his favorite charities, the Boys & Girls Club of America, in exchange for shaving the beard off. Edelman agreed to it, and even matched her $10K donation.

Before going to work she asked Edelman if he had any last words for his beard - he did: "I love you beard, it's been a hell of a year".

The show aired on Friday. "My father was a tough, hard-nosed guy and pushed me to limits I never thought I could get to. So this is like a full-family kind of win", he said. The Patriots won 13-3.

"Hey well, uh, you're a hell of a football player", Edelman told NBC's Peter King about his draft-day phone call with Belichick.

Before the big shave, Edelman said that winning the Super Bowl - he brought the gleaming Lombardi Trophy with him - is what's most important, but the MVP recognition gave him something personally as well. "I have to shower after I eat".
