Southampton vs. Cardiff: Preview of Crucial Match at St. Mary’s

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl hopes a warm weather training camp in Tenerife can rejuvenate his squad in their fight to stay in the Premier League.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's first match in charge of Southampton was a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture on December 8 but since then the Saints have overtaken Cardiff and climbed out of the relegation places after being reinvigorated by the new manager.

Southampton are unbeaten in the league since December but remain threatened by relegation, now sitting in 16th place.

Hasenhuttl said to reporters on Ward-Prowse: "I think I was very clear and very honest to him, which I think helps him a lot".

"We want to show that now we have developed our game, that this time we can turn the tables". I don't know if they were the better team in this game, but they were cleverer and smarter.

"In the last two months, we have changed a lot - we have taken 15 points since then, which we had to because we are still in a lot of trouble", he said.

"We will miss him, for sure, he is a good player for us and good striker, we need to have him here".

Southampton's battle for Premier League survival has been dealt a blow with the news top goalscorer Danny Ings could be out for up to three weeks after he suffered a hamstring injury.

After seeing two points blown at fellow strugglers Burnley after conceding a late penalty, Hasenhuttl is determined to tighten up at the back.

"What we now try to do is to use this time for hard work and to get perfectly prepared for the last two or three months that we have to go", he told the club's official website.

'I don't think we're showing we have problems scoring, we have scored in almost every game.

'That costs him maybe two or three weeks to come back, that is not good.

Southampton will also be reinforced by the like of Hojbjerg, Yoshida, and Bertrand who are all in contention to play this match.

"We should be focused in the future to have more clean sheets".

"But the good thing is Pierre (Hojbjerg) is back after his concussion and it is important for us, because of his experience in this [midfield] position, we missed him a bit [against Burnley]".
