Russell Martin Traded To Dodgers, Scouting Reports On Andrew Spoko, Ronny Brito

Arash Madani is reporting that the Toronto Blue Jays are trading Russell Martin to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Martin, who will turn 36 next month, played in 90 games previous year and hit.194/.338/.325 with ten homers.

Los Angeles is getting cash to cover a significant portion of Martin's $20-million salary for 2019, reports The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The 19-year-old switch-hitter spent much of last season at short-season Ogden. He hit.295/.359/.496 with 11 home runs and 55 RBIs across two leagues. He was ranked 23rd among by MLB.com among Dodgers prospects prior to the trade. Last season was a hard one though, as his numbers regressed a fair amount and he battled injuries.

A seventh-round pick out of Gonzaga in 2015, Sopko ranked 26th on the Dodgers' Top 30 Prospects as recently as two years ago.

The Dodgers were known to be in the marking for a catcher as their own Yasmani Grandal was a free agent this winter, and signed with the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this week on a one year, 18.25 million dollar deal. He started his career with the Dodgers back in 2006 and stayed there until the 2010 season, when he moved on to NY. It was truly an wonderful ride! I am now looking forward to being back with the Dodgers where it all began for me. I would like to extend a very special thanks to the Toronto fans that followed me every step of the way. "I am truly grateful for your continued support", Martin tweeted.
