DJ LeMahieu leaves Rockies to join New York Yankees

As Manny Machado continues to wait out the market, the Yankees have added yet another veteran to their infield.

Instead, the Yankees on Friday came to terms with free agent infielder D.J. LeMahieu on a two-year, $24 million contract, according to multiple reports. He is also a three-time Gold Glove victor. The Yankees have not publicly made Machado an offer - and with LeMahieu, Andujar, Torres, and Tulowitzki now - they may never get to that point.

After seven solid seasons with the Colorado Rockies, LeMaheiu will join the Bombers in NY as a solid rotational piece moving forward.

The Dodgers remain without clear options to start catcher and second base for the 2019 season, so president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and his staff still have some work to do. LeMahieu also spent time at third base, with limited appearances at first base and shortstop.

And LeMahieu is no slouch with the bat, either. He hit.276 in 2018 with 15 homers and 62 RBI. He has posted a line of.312/.372/.443 over the last three years. Where does LeMahieu fit in the lineup? The Yankees' greater long-term concerns reside in the outfield, where there just happens to be a lefty-hitting, big-stage-loving free agent named Bryce Harper still available.

NY brought in Tulowitzki with the understanding that if he's healthy he'll be playing shortstop.

The only real question mark in the Yankees' infield is first base, with Luke Voit and Greg Bird returning next season. On some days they can also start Andujar at DH, move Stanton to left and feature a starting infield of Tulo at short, LeMaheiu at third and Torres at second. On top of having depth even the Red October couldn't handle, DJ LeMahieu's deal should be easy to move in a potential trade.

Machado, one of the game's most polarizing players, didn't create unified giddiness among either Yankees officials or their fan base. 2019 is shaping up to be a fun-looking season!
