Neighbours actor Craig McLachlan charged with assault and sex offences

Victoria Police have given the 53-year-old actor a court attendance notice in relation to the charges.

Australian actor Craig McLachlan has been charged with one count of common assault and eight counts of indecent assault.

McLachlan has strenuously denied all of the allegations against him and previously launched his own legal suit against his accusers.

The charges coincide with the actor's time working on the Rocky Horror Show musical - where he played the lead role of Dr Frank-N-Furter -in Melbourne in 2014.

He was cast as Henry Ramsay, brother of Kylie Minogue's character Charlene, in Neighbours, and appeared in 800-plus episodes before winning a Gold Logie for the most popular personality on TV.

In January a year ago McLachlan - who also appeared in the stage play of The Rocky Horror Show - was accused of indecent assault and sexual harassment.

Trent Glover, for the police commissioner, told the court the refusal was one reason why he was abandoning a bid to preclude access to certain documents, produced in response to subpoenas, on grounds of public interest immunity.

He has been ordered to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on February 8.
