Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos tweets his divorce announcement

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is divorcing his wife, novelist MacKenzie Bezos, 48, after 25 years together. "If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again", they added in the statement.

In the joint statement announcing their split, Jeff and MacKenzie said they expect to continue on as partners in joint ventures and projects.

The amicable tenor of the Bezoses' divorce announcement makes it highly likely that the couple already has reached an agreement on how to divide their assets, Payseno said.

While the details of their divorce settlement have not been made public, exactly how much MacKenzie is entitled to of Bezos' $137 billion fortune could depend on Amazon's value and marital laws in Washington state where they live.

Amazon shares ended up 0.2 percent on Wednesday.

DA Davidson & Co analyst Thomas Forte said the divorce should have no material impact on the company and its shares.

Last year, the pair launched the Bezos Day One Fund, offering a $2bn (€1.73bn) fund to help homeless families and build pre-schools in low-income neighbourhoods. Today the company is worth almost $810 Billion.

It is unlikely that many details of the divorce will become public, NY lawyer Bernard Clair, who is representing Judith Giuliani in her divorce from former NY mayor Rudy Giuliani, said.

A exclusive source told Page Six "Patrick and Lauren have socialized with Jeff Bezos and his wife for a few years, because both (now former) couples have houses in Seattle". Their marriage has been off and on for a while, and they tried hard to fix things, but in the fall they officially separated.

The pair originally met while they were both working at a hedge fund in NY.

In 2012, the couple donated US$2.5 million to a Washington state campaign to legalise same-sex marriage there.

From modest beginnings, Amazon branched out into nearly every product category, taking on established retailers such as Wal-Mart. Also, a $13 billion purchase of Whole Foods is helping the company expand deeper into groceries.

Bezos, who also owns the Washington Post and rocket company Blue Origin, has an estimated net worth of $136.2 billion, according to Forbes.

The couple have also acquired at least five homes in California, Washington state, Texas, Washington D.C. and NY throughout their 25-year marriage.
