Extraordinary helicopter rescue in the French Alps

Enter the Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne (French Mountain Police), who apparently employ the world's most skilled helicopter pilot.

US News reports that on January 2, a young man was skiing with friends in the Pass of Anterne when he apparently dislocated his knee and started having trouble skiing down the mountain.

An incredible video of an injured skier's rescue in the French Alps is the only resume one helicopter pilot will likely ever need, with the footage showcasing the pro's awe-inspiring landing skills during the daring mission.

Video shows the chopper getting incredibly close to the skier, with the aircraft's nose wedging into the snow as it flies within inches of the mountainside.

The video shows the pilot balancing the helicopter with the blades still turning to allow a rescuer to climb out.

Moments later, the chopper takes off again with the the skier onboard, and heads straight towards the spot where Derely is filming.

The first video was filmed before the dramatic rescue. The injured skier was taken to Chamonix Hospital.
