New book lays out Microsoft's Surface plans for 2019, 2020

The Surface family of devices has become increasingly diverse over the years, with Microsoft launching new accessories like the Surface Dock, the Surface Dial, or the brand new Surface headphones.

Microsoft may release a new Surface Laptop running AMD's not-yet-announced Picasso chips with integrated AMD Radeon graphics in late 2019, according to Beneath a Surface, a new book by Microsoft insider Brad Sams, as per The Verge. Sams contends in the book that the 2-in-1 tablet "will get heavily updated in Q4 of 2019 with thinner bezels, new color options, USB-C, and a few other enhancements".

The Surface Laptop made its debut in 2017, and a new version was released this Fall along the Surface Pro 6.

While Sam's book pours over the early days of Surface devices, beginning with the initial hardships, it includes many details about what may be coming in the near future for Surface-branded devices.

Beneath a Surface reportedly details a growing rift between Intel and Microsoft, too.

Microsoft is looking into AMD as a potential alternative as Intel has repeatedly delayed its 10nm processors.

Further, gamers could see a pair of new low-priced Xbox One S devices, including one digital-only option without a disc drive.

Finally, there's a mention of another Surface product that sounds like a smart speaker, classified as a "ambient computing devices". Hence, users will finally be able to get their hands on a handsome Surface branded monitor which can be paired with any other desktop cabinet. Sams writes that the device is created to deal with some of the "common frustrations" of using a smartphone, but that it won't be a smartphone.
