Mercedes Rolls Out Enhanced AMG GT In LA

Within the entire updated AMG GT range showcased at the ongoing LA Auto Show this year, the new GT R Pro becomes the centre of attention as it is a more hardcore version of the manic GT R and by far, the most extreme and track-focussed AMG sports vehicle from the German marque. The sprint to 60mph also takes the same amount of time - 3.4 seconds.

The new AMG coil-over suspension offers even more choices for tailoring the set-up to the particular circuit. This is done with a click system with an integral adjustment dial on the damper. The body dive and roll too can be adjusted differently based on fast and slow compression movements. Front and rear torsion bars are also adjustable, and the front unit is made of carbon fiber.

All of the 2020 AMG GT cars will be arriving in U.S. dealerships in late 2019. In the standard GT it now produces 476 hp, in the GT S it is boosted to 522 hp, the GT C gets 557 hours and the GT R a healthy 585 hp. The whole range has been updated, with the most significant changes to be found inside.

Further equipment made for the track include a steel rollover protection system, four-point safety harness for driver and passenger and a 2kg fire extinguisher, normally available as a cost-option in the Track Pack.

The aero is improved as well with a redesigned apron with two new dive planes, a new splitter inspired by the GT3 vehicle and the same spoiler as the GT R but with an extra spoiler lip. Carbon ceramic composite brakes come standard, as do lightweight AMG Performance wheels.

Four years after the debut of the Mercedes-AMG GT, the German performance brand has updated its two-seat sports auto for the second time. "The agile responses to all driver commands and the overall performance now deliver even more of that incomparable feeling that our racing drivers experience on the track", said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. In addition, they are another visual homage to the role models from motorsport. A revised front apron, front-fender air slots and rear wheel arch elements are less noticeable but important to manage air flow.

The aero side of the equation has undergone some changes, too. The interplay of all these measures significantly reduces front-axle lift without negatively impacting the aerodynamic conditions at the rear axle.

We don't have a price yet, but we expect it to be even more expensive than the top GT R model, which starts at $158,000.

A lightweight carbon-fibre underbody panel has been added to the GT R Pro's rear end to increase rigidity and further improve high-speed stability, while an all-new carbon-fibre roof panel helps lower its centre of gravity. Completing the package is an optional racing stripe kit, which comes in light green when paired with a selenite grey paint finish and dark grey for other colour combinations.
