Fossil gets active with Sport smartwatch

Fossil has launched a smartwatch with a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100, making it the first wearable to come to market with that new chip.

Not only is it the lightest watch Fossil's ever made, but thanks to its aluminum and nylon case, Fossil says that the Fossil Sport is the "lightest smartwatch to date".

Fossil is one of the biggest supporters of Google's Wear OS platform, and today, the company announced its latest smartwatch offering as the Fossil Sport. There's also a new battery saving mode, bringing an additional two days of telling the time in an "ambient mode". It comes with standard 18mm or 22mm watch straps and the watch itself comes in 41mm and 43mm sizes. The new guy has built-in Global Positioning System functionality in addition to heart rate tracking and NFC support for wrist payments, with the latter two features present on the Versa as well. A few flavors are only available for pre-order as of this writing, but every variant carries the same price of $255, regardless of color and size. We don't have the exact weight or display resolution just yet, but we've asked Fossil for clarification on this. It's also running the revamped Wear OS that just started rolling out in September. Just where it ranks among the long list of Wear watches remains to be seen. But the Fossil Sport at least sounds like it's not outrageously priced.
