SHOCKER: Even Taylor Swift Can’t Elect A Democrat In Tennessee

Blackburn, a six-term congressman (her preferred term) from the Nashville suburbs, becomes the first woman elected to represent Tennessee in the U.S. Senate, filling the seat of Sen.

The congresswoman defeated Democratic former Gov. Phil Bredesen by closely aligning her bid with President Donald Trump, who drummed up support for her during three visits to the state that he won by 26 percentage points, including a rally alongside Vice President Mike Pence in Chattanooga two days before the election.

"Go to vote.org and you can find all the info". Bredesen said he would be an independent voice in Washington, and Blackburn countered by tying him to national Democrats. She rarely diverged from Trump, and touted his proposed U.S. -Mexico border wall and tax cuts while blasting Bredesen's opposition to both. Tennessee is a deep red state, and while Blackburn seems likely to enjoy a victory that will have her move from the House to the Senate, the fact that it's even so close may give some solace for Democratic political operatives. She opened her campaign by dubbing herself a "hardcore, card-carrying Tennessee conservative". Channel 3 will have a crew there as results come in from across the state.

Bredesen had been viewed as one of the Democrats' best hopes in the party's quest to regain majority control of the Senate.

Just before Election Day, Swift pleaded with fans to vote, saying, "I'm seeing a lot of underestimation of young voters and this new generation who now have the right to vote just in the last couple of years, but these are people who grew up post 9/11, they grew up with school shooting drills at their schools".
