Is Ariana Grande Rebooting the First Wives Club Reboot?

Pete Davidson, who until very recently was Grande's fiancé, had made a joke about their breakup on an SNL preview, and Grande didn't appreciate it.

Ariana Grande kept it very real during her Wednesday performance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show! She dressed in a sort of pop-star permutation of a wedding dress, and she and her two backup singers did a heavily choreographed routine that, from what I understand, was based on the 1996 movie The First Wives Club, even though Grande has never been anyone's wife.

Ariana also performed her current single "Breathin'" during the episode.

Despite giggling over a misstep that almost caused her to fall, Grande got choked up at one point during her performance, visibly holding back tears while singing about walking down the aisle with her mom someday. "'Cause she grew from the drama". The song begins, "Thought I'd end up with Sean / But he wasn't a match / Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh / Even nearly got married / And for Pete, I'm so thankful / Wish I could say "thank you" to Malcolm / 'Cause he was an angel". "He didn't find out about Ariana's song until later, and that didn't change what he said on 'Weekend Update'". She finished the performance with a smile, and danced down the aisles of the set while the audience cheered.

"I thought we were supposed to exit!" the singer noted. DeGeneres responds: "It's totally fine, we're happy that you came back".

What we love most about this video is that Ariana could have totally redone the whole thing, but chose not to.

"Thank u, next" is out now on the streaming services.
