Amazon to Offer Free Shipping on Holiday Orders

"This holiday, customers can enjoy free shipping with no minimum purchase amount on orders that will arrive in time for Christmas, including items from Amazon's expertly curated Gift Guides across electronics, fashion, home and toys", said Doug Herrington, Senior Vice President of North American Retail at Amazon.

The guaranteed time of delivery is between 5-8 days of the time it's shipped.

Of course, if you want more benefits, like free videos, music streaming, books, and guaranteed shipping speeds, you may want to try out a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime.

Amazon didn't say when customers using the free standard shipping tier would have to place orders to guarantee delivery by Christmas.

Amazon won't be sidelined by brick and mortar stores this holiday.

These will be available in "limited quantities" according to Amazon, meaning customers will need to act fast to take advantage of the offers.

Amazon is joining its rival retailers in beefing up its free shipping program just ahead of the holiday shopping blitz.

This is on top of the unlimited FREE Two-Day Shipping that Prime members receive every day on more than 100 million items.

Amazon's move follows similar announcements from Walmart and Target last month. In the wake of Walmart's change, it lowered the threshold twice that same year: to $35, and then to the current non-promotional threshold of $25.

With the all-important holiday season kicking off around Thanksgiving later this month, retailers are jockeying for customers' dollars and hoping to outpace Amazon, which takes up almost 50 cents of each dollar spent online in the US.

Most of this year's sales growth is likely to come from online purchases. Analysts estimated that Amazon took almost half of all online retail sales in 2017, and that it will account for even more this year.
