Castor: Enrollment Opens Today for Affordable Care Act Health Policies

Open enrollment began Thursday through the Affordable Care Act, which covers more than 100,000 Louisiana residents.

Also, the federal government has announced planned maintenance shutdowns of HealthCare.gov on most Sunday mornings during open enrollment.

"For young people, who are often purchasing insurance for the first time, restoring this funding would mean that they would once again get the impartial, expert guidance that only Navigators can provide, and could help those who don't know about open enrollment and the ACA marketplace find coverage before it's too late", Hemlin said. Congressional and gubernatorial candidates continue to insist they support efforts to not bar people with pre-existing conditions from getting coverage or paying exorbitant rates.

The open enrollment period for the Obama-era health overhaul law ends December 15.

This is the first enrollment period after federal officials removed the tax penalty for people who fail to purchase health insurance, a former requirement under the Affordable Care Act.

Enrollees can choose one of eight Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of DE plans that are available for purchase in 2019 or they will be automatically re-enrolled in a plan that is similar to the one they now have.

Even if one sets these past controversies aside, however, it's no surprise that American voters are so concerned about the state of health and sickness in our country.

Meanwhile, open enrollment is also underway for Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans and the Iowa Insurance Division's Senior Health Insurance Information Program or "SHIIP" is available to offer free, unbiased and confidential assistance to Iowans, says Ommen.

Federal tax credits are available for those whose household income is between 138 percent and 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.

Ommen said that if individuals are not eligible for subsidies to help with those costs, the system does not work. "The plan you have might cost more or less this year".

She says unlike Obamacare plans, the short-term plans also don't cover normal doctor visits and preventative care.

The average cost for individual plans will decrease 6.4 percent statewide compared to this year, Donelon said.

Under the Affordable Care Act, insurers can't deny coverage or raise premiums for people with pre-existing conditions.

"Through Get Covered New Jersey, we are working with agencies and nonprofit partners to make sure residents hear the message that now is the time to buy health insurance for next year so that they can get the coverage they deserve", said Commissioner Caride.

The overall current average monthly premium in DE is $750, reduced to $223 per month after factoring the tax credit. Across the state help is available from navigators at many Community Action Agencies, assisters at Federally Qualified Health Centers, and at many hospitals.

Hattemer said all of the financial help that's been available in the previous years is still available.

The SCC says anyone thinking about changing their insurance plan or buying new coverage should review their coverage needs and explore all options. "Consumers now have the freedom to shop outside of the ACA for health insurance they can afford without fear of a tax fine".
