Westbrook to miss season opener vs. Warriors

Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook won't be suiting up for tonight's National Basketball Association season-opener at Oracle Arena.

Without Westbrook, Dennis Schroder is expected to start at point guard.

In addition to hosting conference rival the Oklahoma City Thunder, the organization unveiled another championship banner in the rafters.

Westbrook underwent the procedure on September 12 and was slated to be re-evaluated in four weeks, which was last Wednesday, but coach Billy Donovan told reporters Tuesday the seven-time All-Star would miss the opener.

Thunder center Steven Adams is questionable with back stiffness, and a determination on his availability will be made closer to tipoff.

Westbrook, who turns 30 in November, has missed just four games total over the last three seasons.

Westbrook collected 25.4 points, 10.1 boards, and 10.3 assists in 80 contests last season - his second consecutive triple-double average.

After tonight's game, the Thunder will travel to Los Angeles for a Friday night matchup against the Clippers.
