Taliban claims responsibility for the explosion in Qahraman's office in Helmand

Since July 1, at least 9 candidates have been killed in attacks.

The incident took place at his campaign office in Lashkargah city, a spokesman for the provincial governor Omar Zwak confirmed, adding that "explosives were placed inside his sofa".

Jabar Qahraman was killed in his office today.

"Such brutal acts of the terrorists and their supporters can not weaken people's trust in the peaceful and democratic processes", President Ashraf Ghani said in a statement after Qahraman's death.

Wardak local officials claim that the airstrike was conducted in Charkh district of the province and four Taliban insurgents including Hassbullah known as Ghorzang a Taliban group leader was killed.

Mohammad Monir Rahimi Samangan's police spokesman said that the clash started Monday night in Zerki village of Darah Sof Payan district of the province.

Qahraman had spearheaded the formation of Sangorian, a secret militia trained by Afghan intelligence to infiltrate the Taliban.

On October 3, an explosion targeted an election rally in Nangarhar, killing 14 people killed.

Thousands of teachers across the country have been trained to work as polling officers for the election this Saturday.

Preparations for the ballot have been a shambles and with days to go, organisers are still struggling to distribute voting materials to more than 5,000 polling centres.

"Teachers and students of educational institutes must stay away from all enemy political processes and must not allow the invaders and their stooges to utilize their schools for the implementation of their evil projects", the Taliban said in a statement.
