Nicole Kidman Is Haunted By Her Past In 'Destroyer' Trailer

With this new trailer for Destroyer, we see what she means.

Nicole Kidman might be known as one of the most glamorous women in Hollywood, but the actress looks almost unrecognizable in her new turn as LAPD detective Erin Bell in upcoming crime thriller "Destroyer". The film, written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, reunites Kidman's character with people from her past: a criminal gang she once joined when she was an undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation agent.

The film features an ensemble cast that includes Kidman, who just came off an Emmy win for her acting and producing on the HBO hit Big Little Lies, Bradley Whitford (Get Out), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Sebastian Stan (Avengers: Infinity War), Toby Kebbell (War for the Planet of the Apes), Scoot McNairy (Halt and Catch Fire) and Beau Knapp (The Nice Guys). The influence of West Coast crime classics like To Live and Die in L.A. and Heat is certainly felt in Destroyer - there's a stunning mid-movie bank robbery sequence that Michael Mann would stand up and applaud - but Kidman, in this performance, explores new emotional and physical territory.

We're looking forward to catching "Destroyer" in theaters when it arrives on December 25, even though it doesn't look like very holiday-friendly material. Destroyer isn't the only Christmastime release in which Kidman gets to kick butt; the latest Aquaman trailer includes shots of her regal Queen Atlanna getting her superhero on.

Following up her small-scale, impressive thriller The Invitation, Karyn Kusama has given Nicole Kidman quite a transformative showcase with Destroyer.

Annapurna Pictures releases Destroyer to theaters in NY and Los Angeles on Christmas Day, with expansion coming in January.
