The subject of Pogba's reportedly fraught relationship with United boss Jose Mourinho was strictly off the table for the interview at France's global training base.

Manchester United supporters were elated with the performance of midfielder Paul Pogba, who became the catalyst of the club's 3-2 Premier League comeback win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

And the former Juventus midfielder, who has scored twice and provided two assists in eight top-flight outings, said he has found it harder to motivate himself, having won the biggest prize of all in Russian Federation.

"But we like challenges too, we have goals".

'I've never played in the France team to be captain, being here is already a big thing for me, ' he told AFP. "I'd like to do that".

The Manchester United midfielder was dramatically stripped of the vice-captaincy at Old Trafford last month by Mourinho.

Pogba was one of six players in Didier Deschamps' squad to be nominated for the Ballon d'Or on Monday, and he believes the prize should go to one of his France teammates.

"I could say what I felt, give messages and pass them on from the older players to the younger ones".

Asked about his motivations after reaching the pinnacle with France in the summer, Pogba told Le Figaro: 'I'm not satisfied, I'm still very hungry.

'You do not have to be a captain to speak.

"For me, a leader isn't someone who wears something on his arm, who puts on the captain's armband".

The Manchester United midfielder and World Cup victor is one of the biggest names and most outspoken figures in the French global set-up.

"There are a lot who deserve [the award], I don't put myself among them", he said.
