Rishabh Pant gets call-up for first two ODIs as Virat Kohli returns

Rishabh Pant on Thursday earned a maiden call-up to the Indian ODI team, replacing Dinesh Karthik for the first two games against the West Indies.

The boost from the Nidahas Cup heroics (in Sri Lanka) has run its course for Dinesh Karthik as Rishabh Pant was named in the squad.

Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, and Shardul Thakur have also been included in the Indian squad. "That'll be among those people whom we are going to pick from now onwards, which also includes Umesh Yadav". Khaleel Ahmed after a promising show in the Asia Cup finds a place in the squad.

Ambati Rayudu, after a good Asia Cup performance, will retain his place even if Kohli decides to play.

Earlier in the day, India announced a 12-member squad for the Hyderabad Test starting tomorrow, it was a surprise that Mayank Agarwal again does not get picked.

On KL Rahul, who returned to form at the fag end of the England series but failed to capitalise on a wicket in Rajkot where every other Indian batsmen made merry, Arun said the former is a "fantastic player" who should be persisted with. "In the search of second wicketkeeper, we have given opportunities to DK. And we can take a call at appropriate time about who is the best among the two".

India thrashed the West Indies by a record innings and 272 runs last week but spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said the SG ball was "disappointing", and that he preferred Australia's Kookaburra or Dukes. Meanwhile, Manish Pandey, Ambati Rayudu make it to the middle order in blues.

India and Windies will be locking horns in the five-match ODI series after the conclusion of the ongoing Test series.
