News Rockingham man charged with murder after woman dies

Homicide Detectives are investigating the alleged stabbing of a woman in Rockingham.

It's understood the woman was injured late on Saturday evening at an unknown location.

Ms Francis managed to drive 500m to a Dome cafe on Kent Street, near the Rockingham foreshore, where horrified staff called an ambulance.

It has been claimed the woman was a social worker and had been attending a house for work before she was attacked.

The mental health worker fatally stabbed while said to be visiting a patient was not rostered on at the time, her employer says.

Ross Smith said he rushed outside after hearing sirens and saw several police cars converge on the unit block.

Dome was closed over two days and was expected to be back open by Tuesday.

Not-for-profit organisation Neami National said in a statement the Rockingham facility did not offer after-hours or weekend services.

"It is with deep sadness that we can confirm that a member of our Rockingham rehabilitation and support team died tragically over the weekend", he said.

"We don't know why Jacqueline was visiting the home site outside of normal hours and that is certainly one of the questions we are working to have answered", a spokesman said.

"We have very clear protocols in relation to home visits in these situations", Mr Cook said on Monday.

"Budget cuts have got nothing to do with this set of circumstances".

He was remanded in custody until his appearance in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on October 15.
