Kurt Russell as Santa in Teaser for Netflix's 'The Christmas Chronicles'

There's a new jolly face of Christmas on the way, and his name is Kurt Russell. Sure, he's still rosy-cheeked, a little soft around the tummy, gray-bearded, and fond of cookies and milk like the Santa of our memory, but Russell's iteration of Kris Kringle is also self-aware, suave, and oh-so confident. "Well, billboards add 80 pounds", he explains in the teaser. However, in the midst of this plan, the duo accidentally crash Santa's sleigh, and they must now help him save Christmas while there's still time.

In all honesty, Netflix getting into the cheesy Christmas movie game is an incredibly savvy decision. That's right, the '80s action hero, and bad intergalactic father, is suiting up as Santa Claus in a new Netflix original movie, The Christmas Chronicles.

The Christmas Chronicles brings the festive cheer to Netflix on November 22.

The Christmas Chronicles follows the story of a brother and sister who form an ingenious plot: Catch Santa Claus in the act. Sometimes folks just want to feel good and Christmas-y, and I would not be surprised if Netflix starts upping the ante with original holiday film material.

Every December, audiences are inundated with humdrum Christmas movies whose dialogue goes in one ear and out the other, whose characters are as stale as gingerbread houses that have been sitting out since the day after Thanksgiving, and whose stories are forgotten soon after the credits roll.

Directed by Clay Kaytis (The Angry Birds Movie) and produced by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter), The Christmas Chronicles stars Kurt Russell, Kimberly Williams, Oliver Hudson, Judah Lewis, Lamorne Morris, Darby Camp, Lauren Collins, Martin Roach, Elena Khan, Kayla Lakhani, and David Kohlsmith.
