New Huawei earbuds offer unique power combination

With the Huawei Mate 20 announcement less than a month away, the rumours are literally flying about what new features and tech it could be bringing in.

Huawei's upcoming Mate 20 smartphone, in combination with the company's upcoming wireless earbuds, the FreeBuds 2 Pro, will have a clever feature that will provide some extra listening time in desperate situations. The headphones support Hi-Res Audio Protocol for bitrates up to 560 Kbps and manage three hours of battery life, though the case should provide up to 20 hours of charge alone.

Unfortunately, wireless charging is a sore spot for Apple right now.

Given that the case works via Qi charging, you'll likely be able to charge a compatible iPhone with them as well. Wireless charging will be a bit slower, but still, a great option for when you're on the go. The Freebuds 2 Pro will also come with "noise reduction" for ambient and wind noise, though it is not clear whether this will be marketed as or rises to the level of noise-cancelling. It's unclear if you can charge other things with the phone, but that would be extra neat.

While most of these are out, we are still left with Huawei's next-gen Mate phablet, which is being tipped as Huawei Mate 20 (Pro) according to recent leaks and rumours. In addition to similarities in the design, the leaked renders and images hinted at a new functionality that Huawei may add to the Freebuds 2 Pro. Huawei indicates the new earbuds use bone conduction technology to help isolate a user's voice, making the earbuds more effective when used for voice commands.
