US doc, girlfriend accused of drug rapes; hundreds of victims likely

At a news conference Tuesday, Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said the pair is accused of picking up the women at bars or parties, drugging them to the point that the women became unconscious or almost unconscious, then raping them at Robicheaux's apartment.

Robicheaux, 38, is an orthopedic surgeon in California's affluent Orange County and alongside Riley, 31, the medical expert is suspected of committing 'rape by use of drugs, oral copulation by anesthesia or a controlled substance, assault with intent to commit sexual offense and four counts of possession of a controlled substance for sale, ' reports KTLA.

The defendants allegedly invited one of their victims, a 32-year-old woman, to a party in April 2016 and allegedly took her to Robicheaux's apartment once she was intoxicated.

"The defendants are accused of supplying multiple drugs to the victim, then raping and orally copulating her while she was prevented from resisting due to intoxicating and controlled substances and they should have reasonably known of her condition", the district attorney's office said. The other victim said she became intoxicated and passed out at a bar on October 2, 2016, and was taken to Robicheaux's apartment, where she was assaulted, the district attorney said. The victim woke up, according to officials, and screamed before a police officer responded.

"We believe the defendants used their good looks and charms to lower the inhibitions of their potential prey", Rackauckas said after playing a clip of Robicheaux's appearance in "Online Dating Rituals of the American Male". "It appears they are highly intoxicated beyond the ability to consent or resist, they are barely responsive to the defendants' sexual advances", he said.

"It must be noted that none of the allegations in this matter relate to or concern Dr Robicheaux's medical practice or patients in any way".

Rackauckas said it appeared Riley "played a significant role in disarming the victims and making them feel comfortable and safe" before taking them back to Robicheaux's apartment.

But prosecutors suspect the case might involve hundreds of other victims.

Robicheaux was a surgeon for the NewportCare Medical Group, but he has been removed from the company's website.

"In the materials we've seized, there are thousands and thousands of videos and images on Robicheaux's phone, many including Riley", Rackauckas said at a press conference Tuesday.

The weapons were found when police searched home in early 2018 and found "large quantities of illegal drugs", according to the district attorney's office.

Investigators are trying to identify the other women in the videos and asked anyone who has encountered the couple to come forward.

"We've all heard of a wolf in sheep's clothing. Well, a wolf can wear scrubs or doctor's clothing, or a wolf can be a handsome woman".

The district attorney said events and places the pair may have travelled to since 2015 include the Burning Man festival in Nevada, the Dirtybird Campout festival in Silverado, California, the Splash House festival in Palm Springs, and landmarks near Page, Arizona. "Or a wolf can be a lovely woman".

If found guilty, he could serve up to 40 years in prison. while Riley faces just over 30 years. Attorneys for Robicheaux and Riley say their clients "have been aware of these accusations for a number of months" and they unequivocally deny "all allegations of non-consensual sex".
