India vs England: Rishabh Pant receives his Test cap

The first day's play will start at 11 am local time and 3:30 pm IST. Coming to the 3rd Test, Kohli and Shastri will aim to get team combination right with the most awaited change likely to be the inclusion of 20-year-old Rishabh Pant, who might replace Dinesh Karthik, who is in awful form. Pant came in place of Dinesh Karthik, who has been struggling with the bat against England. Pant's wicketkeeping was tidy (he had 17 dismissals on tour) and signed off with 58 and 61 in defeat to England Lions, which overlapped with the BCCI selectors naming him in an 18-man squad for the first three Tests against England. Pacers Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes and Sam Curran are ready to make life miserable for the Indian batsmen as they did in the previous Tests.

However, the Indian camp will be thinking more of survival. Throughout the week, they have been left picking up the pieces, mostly in terms of re-evaluating fitness of their key players. In that aspect atleast, there is some good news. They make three changes, and crucially captain Virat Kohli is fit after suffering back problems at Lord's. Kohli's condition seemed to have improved a lot and as he had maintained, he will be out there at the toss alongside Joe Root.

At Lord's, India picked two spinners - choosing the team for the game they wanted to play, not the team for the game they actually had to play. After losing the second Test at Lord's by an innings and 159 runs, the visitors are demoralised and must first put up a fight.

"We are here without a negative bone, wanting to play to win, as simple as that". That appears unlikely - India have already ditched one opener, Shikhar Dhawan, this series.

Kohli and Rahane rotated the strike beautifully all session. It was the case in Birmingham and London, as well as in Nottingham, and playing an extra specialist batsman is not in the management's immediate plans as yet.

"I'm very excited that Jasprit's getting fit again", said Kohli.

The pitch at Trent Bridge bore a different look than 2014, when these two teams met here. India's batsmen, barring Virat Kohli, have failed to deliver in four innings.

Shastri had warned against ruling out an Indian comeback in the Test series while speaking to the media on Thursday. Meanwhile, England have a big selection headache on their hands.
