Scarlett Johansson Named 'World's Highest-Paid Actress' By Forbes

The figures are just a tad depressing when compared to the top earning actors of the year - George Clooney at $239 million (though this was thanks to the $700 million sale of Casamigos Tequila, rather than earnings from acting) and Dwayne Johnson at $124 million.

Angelina Jolie returned to the list, largely helped by an advance payment for her future role in Maleficent 2.

The highest paid actresses for this year have been revealed with Scarlett Johansson coming out on top.

Scarlett Johansson has topped Forbes' highest-paid actress list for 2018, as she earned $40m (£31.8m) in the a year ago. Brad Pitt's other ex Jennifer Aniston came in at No. 3, earning $19.5 million, mostly from endorsement deals with Aveeno, Smartwater and Emirates Airlines.

#4 is X-Men star Jennifer Lawrence who commands a high coin for the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix flick and brought in $18 million. Number 4 on the list is Jennifer Lawrence just ahead of Reese Witherspoon, who earned $16.5 million a year ago.

In fifth place, Reese Witherspoon, 42, took in US$16.5 million.

Julia Roberts is behind Kunis with $13 million, with earnings from older movies and a Lancôme endorsement.

In Forbes' newly released ranking of actresses who make the most money, however, Stone didn't get a spot anywhere in the top 10. Although the usual names have, of course, made the list, this year relative newcomer Gal Gadot has made the top ten for the first time ever thanks to her contract for the follow-up for the incredibly successful Wonder Woman blockbuster, Wonder Woman 84. Throughout the years, the main Avengers have seen a bump in pay, something Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed last year.

The magazine compiles its annual celebrity earnings lists from box office and Nielsen data, as well as from interviews with industry insiders.
