Ohio State opens practice but coaches, players off-limits for interviews

It seems like we're getting news on the situation at Ohio State nearly daily, and we have more today.

The lawyer for Courtney Smith said in a statement Tuesday that Courtney was not contacted by Ohio State University regarding the domestic abuse allegations against Zach Smith in 2015.

Smith is the wife of former Ohio State and Urban Meyer assistant Zach Smith, who is accused of multiple incidents of domestic abuse.

'Ms. Smith is cautiously optimistic that The Ohio State University's investigative committee will determine if proper reporting protocol was followed upon learning of the ongoing, abuse allegations against Zach Smith, ' Leveridge said in the statement.

Leverage also said that Courtney Smith did not get paid for interviews she granted to reporters.

Head coach Urban Meyer of the Ohio State Buckeyes on the sidelines during the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at University of Phoenix Stadium on January 1, 2016 in Glendale, Arizona.

"Urban Meyer is one of the best things that could ever happen for the university, and definitely for our family", Elliott told WCMH. The wide-receivers coach/recruiting coordinator was sacked July 24 after his ex-wife sought a restraining order against him.

Ohio State placed Meyer on paid administrative leave last week and said that an investigation should be complete within 14 days.

Ohio State fired assistant coach Zach Smith on July 23 when his past allegations of domestic assault were brought to light by reporter Brett McMurphy.

Meyer admitted Friday that he knew of both alleged incidents at the time and "followed proper reporting protocols and procedures", acknowledging that his recent statements were inaccurate.

Fans like "Tennessee Jeff" Hamms and Stacy Elliott, the father of former Buckeye running back Ezekiel Elliott, pumped up fans with stories of Meyer's success at Ohio State, which includes a 2014 national title when Elliott was among the team's best players.

"Decisions about actions, based on the findings of the investigation, will be made by the president of the university (Michael V. Drake) in consultation with the board of trustees", according to the school's statement.
