Nunes Explains Why Rosenstein Has Not Been Impeached In Leaked Audio

Nunes made the comment at a fundraiser for House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, according leaked audio obtained by NBC and played on the Rachel Maddow Show.

"We have to keep the majority", he adds.

The remarks appear to be a blunt assessment from Nunes, a top Trump ally in Congress who Democrats accuse of trying to help the White House with the Russian Federation probe, that Republicans must keep their House majority in the midterm elections to shield Trump from the special counsel investigation.

During the fundraiser, Nunes also said conservative Republicans made a decision to table the idea of impeaching deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who's overseeing the Mueller probe, because it could endanger the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

The counterintelligence analyst then explained how he really feels about the House Intelligence Committee chairman: "If you gave Nunes the "f 'and the 'a", he couldn't spell 'fact'". That's why I keep-thank you for saying that, by the way-we have to keep all these, we have to keep the majority.

"Like sometimes you love the president's tweets, sometimes we cringe on the president's tweets", he said, attempting to discredit Mueller's purported examination of Trump's inflammatory posts as part of his inquiry into possible obstruction of justice. The committee's Republicans issued a report that stated they found no evidence of collusion between Trump's team and Russian Federation, but Democrats accused Republicans of failing to interview witnesses and subpoena key documents in the probe in an effort to protect Trump.

It seems Nunes is anxious about whether Republicans would be able to make up the majority in the upcoming November elections and the fact that the GOP is the only thing stopping the removal of Donald Trump as president.

Nunes also later talked about the upcoming November midterms and his concerns about keeping the Republican majority in the Senate and the House, all to keep Trump as president.

A small group of conservatives introduced impeachment documents targeting Rosenstein last month and withdrew them less than 24 hours later.

"So it's not a matter that any of us like Rosenstein".

He said everything would have to be dropped if impeachment was up for a vote.

Nunes also noted that while he supports impeaching Rosenstein, he knows it would be unpopular, and can't do that until after the election: "I've said publicly Rosenstein deserves to be impeached... the question is the timing of it right before the election". "It's a matter of, it's a matter of timing".
