Kawhi Leonard Posts First Message Since Raptors/Spurs Trade

Kawhi Leonard has been silent since being acquired by the Raptors from San Antonio as part a trade for DeMar DeRozan and isn't expected to address Toronto media until training camp in September.

Leonard popped up in Toronto to take a picture with Masai Ujiri after the trade was done and talk to the Raptors brass about playing for the team, but still avoided offering any public statements as Ujiri held the trade press conference alone.

Leonard has one year and a player option left on his current deal and is set to make $20.1 million in 2018-19.

"While I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my career", Leonard wrote.

"THANK YOU Pop I'll always be grateful for my growth under your guidance", Leonard wrote.

Though some are more heartfelt and less robotic, thank-you letters by traded players rarely say much significantly. There is not a more passionate or dedicated fan base than what I've witnessed in San Antonio. My family and I want to say THANK YOU to the entire Spurs organization and the people and fans of San Antonio.

"Through all the ups and downs - I'm glad there were many more ups!"

There was speculation that Leonard would not play for Toronto, as his preference was to head to Los Angeles and play for the Lakers.

"It's cool to see all the kids excited to hang out with us, and I'm excited to hang out with them", White said.

While last season was one to forget for Leonard, his time in San Antonio will be better defined by his 2013-14 campaign, when he helped the Spurs capture their fifth National Basketball Association title while being named MVP of the Finals.

Leonard was a two-time All-Star in seven seasons with the Spurs.

However, questions remain about the status of a right leg injury that shelved him for all but nine games last season.
