Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma joins Everton on loan

Everton manager Marco Silva has confirmed that a loan deal for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma is "almost done".

Respected French newspaper L'Equipe say a deal has been done for the Frenchman to move on a season-long loan deal.

Belgium global Batshuayi scored 10 goals for the Blues last season before a loan move to German side Borussia Dortmund, where he managed nine goals in 14 appearances.

After a serious injury, Zouma spent last season at Stoke City and endured a hard season as the Potters suffered the ignomy of relegation to the Championship.

Manchester United were earlier linked with the likes of Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld and even Yerry Mina but failed in their pursuit of all three players. Manchester United need a defensive upgrade on the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones and Zouma is certainly that.

The Toffees were extremely active on deadline day and addressed their centre back issues by signing Barcelona's Yerry Mina but are still keen to add depth to their squad in the form of Zouma.

Everton filed a deal sheet ahead of Thursday's 5pm deadline, but concerns were raised when no announcement was made this morning despite expectations that the transfer would be completed.

Mourinho was the man in charge at Stamford Bridge when Zouma was signed from St Etienne in 2014 but after a promising start to his career in west London the 23-year-old fell out-of-favour under Antonio Conte.
