GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 May Use GUNN's Script

Since his firing, the entire Guardians of the Galaxy cast has signed an open letter with the implicit demand of getting Gunn rehired, while that looks like it hasn't come to pass, Kurt Russell has said he hopes Gunn is "forgiven" and actor Dave Bautista has said he wants to be let go of Disney if they refuse to use Gunn's script for Vol. 3, which is the latest rumor around Gunn's firing.

Gunn was sacked from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on July 20 after a number of offensive jokes he'd tweeted nearly a decade ago resurfaced.

Despite fears of James Gunn being entirely scrubbed from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, THR reports that Disney does plan on using Gunn's script for Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

While Disney reportedly has no intention of reinstating Gunn on the film, other studios see a great opportunity to swoop in and persuade the filmmaker to leave Disney behind.

Other now-deleted tweets from 2008-2011 included jokes about the attacks of September 11, 2001, AIDS and the holocaust. "Major players said to be interested in Gunn's services run the gamut between studios, including Warner Bros., which has its rival superhero movies via DC Entertainment, and high-profile and Oscar-winning producers". Gunn had made distasteful jokes online years ago that were unearthed, prompting Disney to end their working relationship.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is slated to debut in 2020. The third Guardians film was meant to be the final outing for the original team lineup, and set up future films in the cosmic arena of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Sony or Warner Bros. or Paramount has a shot at being in business with the guy who just delivered two $750M+ blockbusters, they're probably gonna put up with some bad-faith whining to make that happen. One senior executive is even quoted as saying "I'd work with him in a heartbeat". "An end-all verdict hasn't been issued and conversations with Marvel are still ongoing", says one source familiar with the proceedings". Whether that will be back at Marvel or elsewhere is the question.
